Sláinte Mhath (good health)!
The iconic Scottish celebration of the famed author Robert Burns, commonly known as Burns Night, was honoured recently at Oaklands House Care Centre.
Scottish people mark the occasion each year on the 25th of January by enjoying a Burns supper of haggis, neeps and tatties. An honoured tradition likely accompanied by a wee dram and the “address to the hagis”, which is a poem composed by Burns to express his love of the haggis. Robert Burns is most famously known for composing the song Auld Lang Syne.
Oaklands House Residents enjoyed a lively evening where the traditional Burns Night supper was served, alongside some tasty “Burns Night themed” cupcakes. The afternoon activities included a Scottish landmark quiz, highland music and dancing.
Residents and staff also celebrated resident John’s 89th birthday, where he received a beautifully decorated cake, gifts and cards. Suffice to say, another fun-filled day was enjoyed by all, and we look forward to enjoying many more fun activities in the coming months.
