As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Southborough Nursing Home in Surbiton is proud to celebrate the inspiring journey of one of its dedicated colleagues, Sunil Nair.
In 2009, Sunil Nair, a young graduate from India, took a bold step in pursuit of his dreams, moving to the UK to study for an MBA at the University of London. To support his education, he took on a part-time housekeeping role at another home within the Aria Care group where his commitment and hard work were soon recognised. Within six months, he was promoted to Administrator—his first step into the healthcare sector.
“Those early days taught me a lot about the industry,” he recalls. “I worked closely with council teams and gained insights into how the healthcare system operates, from compliance to the challenges faced by organisations.”
After completing his MBA in 2012, he continued his professional ascent, securing the role of Administration Manager at head office. In this role, he managed billings, oversaw accounts, and trained new administrators and home managers in crucial operational processes. His interactions with Council Commissioners on complex issues such as fee negotiations and debt management further honed his strategic and leadership skills.
By 2023, Sunil was eager to expand his expertise and transition into a more operations-focused role. To equip himself for this next step, he enrolled in an NVQ Level 5 Apprenticeship, which he successfully completed in 2024.
“Completing the NVQ Level 5 course has opened so many doors for me,” he says. “I feel more confident and equipped to take on leadership roles. I also believe in continuous learning and am planning to enrol in more courses to further enhance my skills.”
Today, Sunil is a valued part of the Aria Care team, a company dedicated to internal growth and career development.
