At Marchglen Care Centre in Alloa, residents have recently joined a fantastic project that’s connecting communities and bringing smiles across the country. Postcards of Kindness is a Facebook group with over 40,000 members, all united with one simple goal – to combat loneliness by sending postcards and messages to people in different settings, including care homes.
With the help of wellbeing coordinator, Karen, the residents eagerly took part in the project, writing and receiving postcards filled with messages about pets, daily life, holidays, fun facts, and heartfelt notes of friendship.
Karen and the team created a beautiful display featuring a map highlighting the locations of the residents’ new pen pals. From the Scottish towns of Elgin and Rosyth, to Somerset and Shropshire, the postcards have traveled far and wide.
Resident, Duncan, shared his joy, saying, “I’ve got a new pal!” The delight on residents’ faces when they open their new postcards is truly priceless. Whether shared in a group or one-on-one, each postcard brings meaningful connections between so many communities.
A special thank you goes out to Dawn, a member of the Postcards of Kindness group, whose support and contributions have been invaluable to this initiative.
