Oaklands House residents enjoyed some beautiful moments in February, as they engaged in our Heartfelt Moments campaign. Love and connection were in abundance as they reflected on those moments which can be described as “heartfelt”.

Happy 90th Birthday!
Resident Michael celebrated a landmark 90th birthday in February, where he was joined by close friends and staff in toasting his good health. The home’s lounge was appropriately decorated in his honour, with a delicious buffet lovingly prepared by the kitchen team. They even created a beautiful cake to round off a lovely day.
Music-Lover John
Another commendable moment worthy of mention relates to resident music-lover John. His fondness for a tune is well known at Oaklands House, where he delights in contributing to whichever music-related activity is occurring. On this occasion he took up the maraca with gusto and enthusiastically exercised his vocal cords, much to the delight of his fellow residents!

Betty & Myrna Bring The Joy
Betty and Myrna also enjoyed a fun afternoon of music, which descended into fits of giggles. They rarely miss an opportunity to sing, dance or rattle a tambourine. Activities which include music are a great way to encourage social interaction, which can greatly help mental wellbeing. It is also lots of fun!
Competitive Laughter!
On a recent visit to Hollywood Bowl, it was heartwarming to see resident Irene and Lifestyle Assistant Angie enjoy a particularly humorous afternoon together. Irene’s fun extended to her determination to continue competing, by challenging fellow resident John to a match on the air hockey table. Thankfully for both parties, the honours were shared.

Flower Arranging with Audrey
The final Heartfelt moment that occurred during February relates to Oaklands House’s talented flower-arranger Audrey. She created a bouquet in shades of her favourite colour pink, that was complemented by some gypsophila. Flower arranging is not only a relaxing and calming activity, but benefits dexterity, as well encouraging the use of one’s imagination. We are pleased to report that Audrey was very happy to show off her beautiful design.
