Bourne House Gardening Project in Full Bloom

A Blossoming Journey at Bourne House: Residents Reap the Rewards of Their Gardening Project

At Bourne House Nursing Home, nurturing the environment goes hand in hand with supporting the interests and wellbeing of the residents who call it home. Back in September, a group of gardening enthusiasts began a delightful project, planting snowdrop bulbs, vibrant tete-a-tete mini daffodils, and cheerful mini tulips. What started as a small initiative has blossomed into a joyful and fulfilling experience for all involved.

Residents Pam, Enid, Gary, Pat, Norma and John, each with a deep love for gardening, took great pride in caring for their plants over the course of six months. Their patience and dedication were beautifully rewarded in late February and early March, when the snowdrops and daffodils burst into bloom, bringing a welcome touch of spring to the garden. Although the tulips are taking a little longer, they’re growing steadily and are expected to bloom very soon.

This week, the residents discovered that the plants had become pot-bound and needed more space to thrive. In a wonderful act of teamwork, the home’s chef generously donated a stewing pot to help rehouse the growing plants. With enthusiasm and teamwork, resident Pam, supported by staff member Raehan, re-potted the flowers into the garden beds, where they are now flourishing.

The gardening project has been a source of great joy and connection, offering residents a meaningful way to engage with nature and one another. As the team at Bourne House look ahead to the summer, plans are already underway for the next planting phase—sowing seeds that will continue to brighten the garden and the lives of those who nurture it.

This heart-warming initiative is a shining example of Aria Care’s commitment to supporting purposeful living, celebrating individuality, and creating vibrant, connected communities.
