Albany Lodge Nursing Home in Croydon was delighted to be named the winner of Aria’s Heartfelt Moments campaign, a photography competition that encouraged all our communities to capture and share the special, meaningful moments that make a difference in the lives of their residents, families, and colleagues.
Throughout February, the homes embraced the challenge, using their fantastic photography skills to document the smiles, laughter, and care, showcasing the warmth and compassion at the heart of Aria Care.
After careful deliberation, Albany Lodge were revealed as the winner of the Heartfelt Moments competition, receiving a brand-new camera and a private photography lesson with Aria’s Media Producer Marcus Gilbert to further enhance their skills and continue capturing the beautiful moments within their home.
Marcus praised their entries for capturing emotion, composition, and storytelling, making their submissions truly special.
At Albany Lodge, every day is an opportunity to celebrate the special moments that bring joy, comfort, and connection to our residents. From creative expression to cherished love stories, heartwarming companionship to remarkable achievements, these moments define the spirit of our community.

A Creative Valentine’s Celebration
Creativity knows no age, and at Albany Lodge, it is always encouraged. Sandy, one of our talented residents, recently participated in a Valentine’s Day art activity, colouring a beautiful heart design with vibrant and joyful hues. The pride she felt in her masterpiece was evident as she eagerly posed for a photo to showcase her work. These small yet meaningful expressions of creativity remind us how art can bring happiness and a sense of accomplishment at any stage of life.
A Love That Stands the Test of Time
Love stories are timeless, and at Albany Lodge, we have the privilege of witnessing some truly special ones. Mrs E, aged 85, has been married to Mr M for an incredible 59 years. This year marked their first Valentine’s Day spent outside their matrimonial home, yet their love remained unwavering. Mr M arrived to celebrate with his beloved, filling the room with warmth and joy. As they cut their Valentine’s cake together, their smiles and laughter were a touching reminder that true love transcends time and place.

A Triumph in Physiotherapy: Joan’s Milestone
Since arriving at Albany Lodge, Joan has been reliant on a wheelchair. However, during a recent physiotherapy session, she achieved something she never thought possible—she stood up on her own two feet. With the gentle encouragement of our dedicated physiotherapist, Joan experienced a moment of pure joy and triumph. Her achievement is a testament to the power of perseverance and the incredible strength that resides within each of our residents.
The Comfort of Animal Therapy
For some, happiness comes in the form of companionship. For Margaret, this means the loving presence of animals. A recent visit from a dog and a pony brought immeasurable joy to her day. As the gentle dog curled up beside her, Margaret’s face lit up with contentment. These therapy visits provide comfort, companionship, and emotional healing, reinforcing the deep connection between humans and animals.

The Power of Doll Therapy: Ann’s Story
At Albany Lodge, we recognise the importance of meaningful activities that bring comfort and happiness. Ann, a cherished resident, finds immense joy in doll therapy. Though she does not have children of her own, the simple act of cradling a lifelike therapy doll brings her peace and purpose. The emotional connection she experiences highlights the significance of small yet deeply impactful moments that enhance well-being and foster a sense of belonging.
These heartfelt moments at Albany Lodge remind us that joy, love, and achievement come in many forms. Whether through art, companionship, physical milestones, or treasured memories, each resident’s journey is unique and special. As we continue to create and celebrate these moments, we reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate care, fostering connection, and embracing the individuality of everyone in our community.
