As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the incredible journeys of our apprentices by sharing stories from our graduates and how their experiences have shaped their careers and opened new opportunities!

Jerry Abeya, Deputy Manager at Abbeycrest Nursing Home has just completed his Level 5 Leader in Care apprenticeship.
“I was initially under the impression that professional growth for nurses in the Social Care sector was very limited. This was proven otherwise when my supportive manager discussed apprenticeships with me, which led to me enrolling to undertake my Level 5.
The Apprenticeship was a worthwhile journey on which I learnt so much and the glorious taste of finishing the whole course was very satisfying. Completing this qualification helped me recognise my existing capabilities and boosted my confidence to face the tasks in my current role, and I believe new opportunities will open for me at the right time.
I would recommend that anyone who is thinking about completing an apprenticeship should grasp the chance with both hands as it is a great way to gain a recognised qualification that could advance their career.”
Sunil Nair works at Southborough Nursing Home and has just completed his Operations Manager NVQ Level 5 apprenticeship.
When Sunil was looking for a new challenge and growth in a more operations-focused role, he enrolled in an NVQ Level 5 Apprenticeship programme. This intensive course, completed in 2024, provided him with the advanced skills needed to thrive in the demanding world of operational management.
Reflecting on his journey, Sunil said, “Completing the NVQ5 course has opened so many doors for me. I feel more confident and equipped to take on leadership roles. I also believe in continuous learning, and I’m planning to enrol in more courses to further enhance my skills.”
As Sunil looks to the future, he remains an inspiring figure for others, proving that determination and continuous learning can transform not just careers, but lives.

Regional Trainer Caroline Thorne recently completed her Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship.
“I completed my Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship when I was working in one of our communities as a Senior Care Assistant. It helped me grow in confidence and have a greater level of knowledge in areas, which enabled me to apply for the role of Regional Trainer.
I never thought I would be in a position that I love so much, and I feel that I make a difference to our colleagues in our communities and the care they provide to our residents.
I would encourage anyone to complete an apprenticeship as it can really make a difference to your career.”
Alina Lazar, RGN at Abbeycrest Nursing Home completed her Leader in Adult Care Level 5 qualification in February 2024.
Alina was awarded a certificate and flowers by Lucy Crossley, Business Development Manager at Paragon Skills, in recognition of her outstanding achievement as the first apprentice to attain a Level 5 qualification since the Aria-Paragon partnership started in March 2023.
“Our partnership with Paragon has been instrumental in leading a dynamic learning environment for our apprentices,” said Kelly Howell, Chief People Officer. “Alina’s accomplishment is a testament to the quality of our apprenticeship programme.”
Alina expressed her gratitude for the opportunities provided through the apprenticeship. “I am thrilled to have completed my qualification and am truly grateful for the support and guidance I received throughout this journey. I look forward to continuing my career at Abbeycrest.”
