Brook House care home in Towcester have enjoyed joyful celebrations as residents and colleagues came together to mark the Chinese New Year in style.
The care home embraced the traditions of the Lunar New Year, transforming its bistro with colourful red lanterns, banners, and ornaments symbolising good fortune. Residents and team members worked together to prepare for the festivities, engaging in arts and crafts sessions to create some of the decorations themselves.
The celebration featured a feast of Chinese-inspired cuisine, offering traditional dishes. The menu was thoughtfully curated to ensure everyone could enjoy the flavours while learning about the significance of each dish.
In addition to the culinary delights, residents and team members participated in activities designed to explore and appreciate Chinese culture. Stories about the history and traditions of the Lunar New Year were shared, including the legend of the zodiac animals.
“We’re always looking for ways to bring the world into Brook House and celebrate different cultures and traditions,” said Rhiannon Crofts, home manager. “It’s wonderful to see everyone come together, learn something new, and have such a fantastic time.”
Residents expressed their delight at the event. “It’s so lovely to celebrate something different,” one resident said. “The decorations are beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious.”
The Lunar New Year celebration not only brightened the winter day but also left everyone looking forward to the Year of the Snake with high spirits and a sense of community.
