Last month, the team and residents at Cranmer Court Care Home in Warlingham were busy planning for Aria Care’s annual Christmas cake competition.
On Friday 14th December, the residents started brainstorming and sharing their cake designs. Many of the residents are experienced bakers, having honed their skills in their family kitchens over the years.
Various cake designs were drawn, such as a four-tier cake and others drew cakes with candles, but the residents decided to opt for a green Christmas wreath with a red bow.
On Tuesday 17th December, A’Mya (one of our talented chefs) gave a cooking demonstration in the activity room for the residents where she showed them how to make the perfect sponge.
After mixing the ingredients, A’Mya took the cake mix to the main kitchen for baking. With cake decorations next on the agenda, she gave a second demonstration where she showed everyone how to pipe on the green Christmas wreath.
Wellbeing Supervisor Chris said, “Resident Ann grew up in a bakery owned by her father, so she closely inspected the standard of cake before it was presented as our entry.”
The residents were very pleased with the result.
