Dormy House hosts art competition for local schools

Recently, Dormy House Care Home in Sunningdale revealed the winners of their art competition in partnership with four local schools.

Hosted by our Community Relations Manager Pamela Sharman, Charters School, The Marist School, Trevelyan Middle School, and St Mary’s School Ascot were invited to take part in the art competition. With 33 entrants, Pamela had the difficult task of shortlisting artwork for the final stage of judging which took place on Sunday 29th September 2024, as the standard was so high throughout.

Pamela was joined by Mandy Brar, Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and Richard Young, artist and gallery owner, who helped her to judge the final entries. All finalists and their families were invited to meet with the judges to see their artwork displayed in the conservatory at Dormy House.

The paintings from 1st and 2nd place winners are now taking pride of place in the Dementia unit of the home. Pamela said, “the artwork is very much appreciated by our residents who admire the paintings and creativity.”

The Deputy Mayor said, “I was delighted to visit Dormy House and assist with judging the art competition. It is lovely to see the local community involved with life at Dormy House and to see the interaction between the children and residents.”

Richard said, “as an artist myself and gallery owner, it’s extremely important for me to get involved in community projects and encourage the development of creativity in artists of all ages and at all stages of their career… I was very happy to be invited to advise upon, sponsor, and judge the Dormy House Children’s Art Competition. The standard of artwork, diverse creativity, imaginative use of media, and colour was excellent. I would like to thank everyone who participated and congratulate the winners on their success!”
