Last week, the residents at Garth House Care Home in Dorking enjoyed an afternoon of singing and dancing during their weekly Music Club.
Organised by Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Nergiz, the residents enjoyed listening to songs from the 1950s-70s, playing instruments, and taking part in games such as the ‘Name That Tune’ quiz.
They also celebrated Elvis’ birthday by reminiscing about their favourite memories of him and singing his songs together. One of our residents, Joyce, requested ‘It’s Now or Never,’ and another resident, Joe, requested ‘All Shook Up’.
Music-based activities can offer a range of valuable benefits, particularly for those living with dementia. They can help residents develop and maintain meaningful relationships, reconnect with the past, evoke memories and emotions that may be difficult to express otherwise, and enhance their overall wellbeing.
Nergiz said, “Music-based activities are one of their favourite activities here at Garth House.”
