Magna’s chef shortlisted for prestigious award

Katie Smith, Head Chef at Magna Care Centre in Wimborne is celebrating a significant achievement as she has been shortlisted for the Unsung Hero award at the esteemed Public Sector Catering Awards 2025. Her approach to dining at Magna extends beyond meal preparation—she creates a nurturing, inclusive environment that promotes well-being and joy for every resident.

Katie’s exceptional contributions to the catering and care sector are already recognised in 2024 when she won Chef of the Year at the National Care Awards.

Her passion for menu planning is evident in her involvement in resident meetings and the ‘Resident of the Day’ programme. Katie regularly liaises with residents on menu options, ensuring that every meal is not just nutritious but reflects personal tastes. Her dedication to listening and adapting has strengthened her rapport with residents, making them feel valued and heard.

Katie’s innovative ‘Cooking with Kate’ initiative is a testament to her creativity and respect for residents’ histories and cultural backgrounds. Through this programme, she invites residents to share their cherished recipes, which she recreates and adds to a special cookbook.
