Oak Manor Nursing Home in Norfolk recently welcomed a special visit from a resident favourite—pet therapy company, Miniature Dreams for Tiny Tots. This time, the visit was even more exciting as BBC Radio Norfolk joined to capture the heartwarming impact of pet therapy.

Nicky Hill started Miniature Dreams for Tiny Tots in 2022, bringing her pet pony, Daisy, to meet children and introduce them to the joy of animals. After seeing the positive impact Daisy had on young people, Nicky recognised the benefits pet therapy could offer older adults. She began taking Daisy to care homes, where Daisy quickly became a favourite among residents, loved for her gentle nature and the joy she brings to everyone.

Last year, Nicky and Daisy were nominated in the Animal category of the BBC’s Make a Difference Awards, highlighting their dedication to bringing comfort and connection through animal therapy.  BBC Radio Norfolk attended the visit to gain insight into the wonderful work they do.

Nicky reflected, “Every time I visit a care home, I get to experience so many happy memories, and it makes me feel so proud that I’ve created this wonderful interaction with a pony.”

Oak Manor’s Wellbeing Coordinator, Paula, spoke about the impact of their visits: “It’s just amazing. We have many residents who are non-verbal or have limited mobility, and their whole body just lifts when they see Daisy. The smiles and the tears—it’s incredible! It helps them reminisce and allows them to be themselves, to break out of their shell. Especially for those living with dementia, it’s so important.”

Once again, it was a fantastic visit from Miniature Dreams, with Daisy bringing so much joy to everyone she met. Resident Monica was especially overwhelmed with excitement upon meeting her. A huge thank you to Nicky and Daisy for their continued kindness and dedication—it was a privilege to celebrate the incredible work they do!
