Recently at Southlands Place Care Home in Bexhill-on-Sea, the residents enjoyed a visit from Rosie the Pony.
One of the smallest horse breeds, Rosie is a super-friendly 11-year-old Falabella. Currently training to become a therapy horse with the help of Zoë (her owner), Rosie gets to meet various people from the community to improve their health and wellbeing.
The residents enjoyed learning all about Rosie and giving her lots of attention, treats and admiring her lovely white coat. Wellbeing Coordinator Nikki said, “Rosie was loving life while everyone fed her yummy carrots and treats. She even had a nibble on some grass in the garden which I think she really enjoyed.”
Resident Peter said, “can we keep Rosie? She could help keep the grass nice and short.” Resident Karin added, “She is so beautiful, it made my day seeing Rosie here and being close enough to touch and admire her.”
Animal-assisted therapy is a growing area that uses all types of animals to help people recover or cope better with certain health issues. It has been proven that contact with animals helps depression, loneliness, boredom, and anxiety.
