Sunshine and Fun on Mother’s Day at Steep House
Thankfully, Mother’s Day at Steep House was blessed with sunshine and a sense of relief that winter has finally abated. Their pretty garden, of which they are rightfully very proud, is undertaking its annual rebirth. The birds were chirping, and the daffodils were at their zenith, a perfect accompaniment to a celebration of the many beloved Mother’s within Steep House.
Mothering Sunday has its origins in the 16th century as a Christian observance, traditionally taking place on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Originally, it was a day when people would return to their ‘mother church’—the main church or cathedral in their area—for a special service. Over time, the meaning of the day evolved beyond its religious roots, becoming a celebration of mothers and motherhood. Today, it is widely recognised as an occasion to show appreciation for mothers, often marked by the giving of flowers, cards, and other tokens of gratitude.
At Steep House, Mothering Sunday was a positive occasion as residents and staff came together to celebrate the mothers within our home and to reflect on cherished memories of their own mothers. The afternoon was made extra special with a delightful afternoon tea, where residents enjoyed a selection of delicious treats, beautifully prepared for the occasion by the ever-resourceful kitchen team. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy as residents shared stories, reminisced, and expressed their appreciation for the important maternal figures in their lives.
Such events are an important part of life at Steep House, encouraging a sense of community and ensuring that meaningful traditions continue to be honoured. It was a wonderful day, bringing smiles to all who took part, and a reminder of the enduring love and influence of the mothers in our lives.
