Stowford House Nursing Home residents and team recently enjoyed a fun week preparing their home for Chinese New Year. The annual Chinese celebration falls on the new moon between January 21 and February 20 and is celebrated by Chinese communities throughout the world.
Residents prepared for Chinese New Year by making beautiful decorations to adorn their home. From snakes to dragons and colourful lanterns, their efforts perfectly complemented the arrival of the year of the snake. To mark the year of the snake, residents also created snake themed paper chains.
They also enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing time painting Chinese characters, which represent themes, as opposed to sounds or phenomics. The beautiful characters the residents created can rightly be regarded as pieces of art, some of which are visible below.
Residents and staff concluded their celebration of Chinese New Year, by witnessing a lively dragon dance, where they twirled colourful scarves and waved pom poms, all accompanied by traditional Chinese music. The evening was also complemented by a Chinese supper and a Chinese themed quiz.
Suffice to say, residents are very much looking forward to engaging in more fun activities as the year unfolds.
